Down on the Farm

Well, yesterday (Mon 24th) we spent most of our time down at Hobbs Farm weeding and making the soil good for planting melons. Hobbs Farm is a small cooperative that provides free food to the the soup kitchens and charities that give to homeless and others who are in need.

You will remember that we were also at the farm last week, and when we returned this time we saw the fruit of our labour. What just appeared as field of weeds last week is now a patch of healthy growing cucumbers. The problem was that all the weeds had stunted growth... remember the parable of the sower? Working on the land really gets you thinking about those 'farm stories' that Jesus loved telling. So after our work yesterday we're confident that the melons will also be coming along fine.

Yesterday we also heard from Annie who runs the farm, she told us how God had called her to set up this cooperative. With tears in her eyes, she told us how last week she was ready to give up because there was too much work to do and too little help. Then we turned up! Praise God!
So our weeding had a big impact... produce is growing for the poor, hope is rekindled, and vision is affirmed. I can't believe we did all that!

Also, this was our last day of work, and we are all so tired. Non of us really wanted to work all day in the blistering heat. But when we heard Annies testimony we were reminded that we are really serving God - that got us going. We give thanks.
